CANADIAN CONSULTATION ON THE 5TH UN ENVIRONMENT ASSEMBLY (UNEA-5)The United Nations Association in Canada is working in partnership with the North American Regional Office of the United Nations Environment Programme to organize a series of North American consultations to collect ideas, experiences, and key messages to present at the fifth United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-5) to be held in Nairobi, Kenya, in February 2021. UNEA-5 will gather the world’s Environment Ministers, who set the global environmental policy agenda and consider action on specific themes every two years. For UNEA-5, the theme is "Strengthening Actions for Nature to Achieve the SDGs"
The findings from the consultations will be captured by the UNEA Representatives from North America who will be attending the Assembly. They will work to amplify the individual voices of Canadians, potentially determining the course of how national governments and the United Nations addresses the health and sustainability of our environment. The inputs provided will become part of a report to be sent to the world Environment Ministers ahead of UNEA-5. That report is a public document and will be shared with you through UNA-Canada and also posted on the UNEP website.
Following two successful consultations with Canadian youth and with Policymakers from across the country, the next consultation will be focused on Private Sector Actors working in or with an interest in the Green economy and will take place on September 24th at 1:00 EST.
This consultation is an incredible chance for UNA-Canada members and partners from this sector to come together and exchange ideas to be taken into consideration at the fifth United Nations Environment Assembly.
